Royal Racer Car Competition

2001 STATE CAR COMPETITION RULES
PURPOSE:
The RA Car Competition is an Interest Activity provided for RA boys. Its main purpose is to provide the vehicle for which a boy and an adult can have meaningful relationships working on the car. Caution should be taken to insure that the adult does not transfer adult type feelings of competition to the boy. The adult should let the event remain low key and keep this a fun event. Many associations have RA Car Competition for boys in Grades 1-9, but the state competition held at the Congress will be for boys in Grades 1-6 only. There is no state competition for boys in Grades 7-9. NOTE: To help keep this interest event in the proper perspective, the State RA Committee is requiring that each boy who enters a car in state competition must also ENTER AN EXHIBIT IN THE MISSIONS FAIR. The winners of the Missions Fair exhibits will receive ribbons of like value with Car Competition winners. This requirement is not meant to be cumbersome, but to provide a check list for the boy and for the adult in gauging his progress in missions study and missions involvement. Mission Fair rules are found in the Congress packet. It is strongly recommended that Associations have a Mission Fair requirement. #7k and #15 have NEW RULES LISTED!!! Please read carefully!
1. Participants in the State RA Racer Competition must have first won in their Associational run-offs. Your associational RA Director, Brotherhood Director, and Director of Missions has a form that must be filled out and sent in (see #11).
2. Basic kits will be purchased directly from Royal Racers, 192 Lovejoy Road Sparta, TN 38583. (Current order blank and price list included.) Please order _ inch tapered wheels. NO SCOUT CARS OR WHEELS.

4. Track specifications can be secured by writing the NCBM Department, PO Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512-1107.
5. Each car that is entered in the State RA Competition must have been built during that current year. (April 2001 - April 2002).

b. Each car must have a small RA seal (can be purchased at Lifeway) prominently displayed on the car prior to competition. The RA seal on the bottom of the car is NOT prominently displayed.

l. Inspection: Each car must pass inspection by the official inspection committee before it may compete. The inspectors have the right to disqualify those cars which do not meet these specifications. After inspection cars cannot be touched until race time.
8. Building Hints: Select a race car design from a magazine or newspaper and outline your car as you so desire. Sand the entire car with medium grade sandpaper. Paint with a lead-free paint. Insert metal axles into wheels; then force them into the wood. Rub the entire car with a rubbing compound such as Simonize Cleaner. Then wax to a high gloss. Add numbers, RA seal, and desired decals. The front of the racecar shall not have any indentions, it must be straight across.
9. There will be four categories of competition: Grades 1 - 3: Blue, Red, and White ribbons will be awarded to First, Second, and Third place winners

Grades 1 - 3 Most unusual design: First Place ribbon only.
Grades 4 6 Most unusual design: First Place ribbon only.
Adult Sponsor Most Unusual design: First Place ribbon only.
(All Most Unusual design entries must meet racing specifications)
The Association may give other awards for their winners.
10. It is suggested that the Associational RA Leader serve as the derby coordinator and that he select the Chairman of Deacons of three to five churches within the association to serve as judges.
11. First and Second place LAD & CRUSADER associational winners and alternates, AND ALSO ONE ADULT SPONSOR AND ALTERNATE who desire to compete in the state competition must register with the North Carolina Baptist Men's department, PO Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512 -1107 no later than midnight, Friday, April 5, 2002. THE MOST UNUSUAL LAD, CRUSADER, and ADULT CAR SHOULD BE ENTERED AT THIS TIME ALSO (one lad and one crusader only). If associational winners are NOT registered by these dates, they will NOT be allowed to enter state competition for any reason. It will be the responsibility of the associational leadership to get those registrations in on time. In the event that an association does not have an associational competition and an individual church wishes to enter the state competition, then the church's Lad and/or Crusader chapter that registers with the NCBM Department first will become that association's only representative. This notification must be made by the Association's RA Director and/or the Director of Missions using the official registration form.
12. Grade clarification: A boy who is in the first grade or has just finished the first grade and has not
entered the second grade will be entered as a first grader and will be in the Grades 1 - 3 category. The same for the other five grades holds true.
13. All participants in the state competition must be active members of Royal Ambassador or MissionKids organizations. Chapters are to be registered yearly with the NCBM Department, PO Box 1107, Cary, NC 27512-1107.
14. Boys who participate in the state car competition may enter other competitions only after his car has been completely eliminated from the race. If a boy is not present, his car will be disqualified.
15. Race Procedure:
a. * Impoundment: Once a car has been weighed and checked in, it shall be placed on the impoundment table and not adjusted in any way until the race is finished. (The exception to this will be to allow entries to adjust the width of the wheels if (and only if) they are too narrow to fit on the official track. This could conceivably happen since the old guideline for official track lanes was 1 _, while newer tracks may be 1 _ . Whereas minimum width is listed as 1 5/8, some cars may not fit the larger lane guides. This should not affect the maximum width regulation of 2 _ in any way.)
b.
Heats: All racecars will be run on the same lane as timed elimination heats. The top 8 racecars in each division will race on each lane of the track and the winner will be determined by car winning on both lanes. If both cars win then the average of their time will determine the winner. The race will be double elimination.
c.
Starting: Cars must start by gravity from a standstill, at a starting line on the track or a special ramp, without any help. No pushing will be allowed. Each boy will be required to place his car on the track for the starting .
d.
Finish: The front end of the car which is first over the finish line is the winner.
e. If either car leaves the track on the first run, there is no contest. Race is to be re-run. If same car leaves track on second run, contestant automatically loses.
16. In the event of SUDDEN EMERGENCIES the Event Director may allow a car to be raced by a proxy from the same grade category.
17. The Event Director shall handle any appeals and shall have the final authority.

ASSOCIATIONAL RA CAR WINNER
All associational winners' names are to be sent to the North Carolina Baptist Men's Department by the Associational RA Director or Associational Brotherhood Director or Director of Missions. The associational car winner and alternate forms were sent to these three associational leaders only. If your association does not have car competition, then you can get your Director of Missions to write the North Carolina Baptist Men Department and declare your church the representative of your association in the three divisions: two winners for Grades 1 - 3; two winners for Grades 4 - 6; and one winner for Adult Sponsor. These winners must comply with the state RA Car Competition rules. All entries must have a Missions Fair Exhibit, without exception. For sponsors, the RA who he/she worked with must have a Mission Fair Exhibit.
It is strongly suggested that all Association Race events include the addition of a Mission Fair Exhibit requirement.
